What Clients Have Written

Brought in a Seiko that had been sitting in a drawer for about four years after it started losing an hour a day. The full service took just under three weeks. When I collected it, the timing sheet showed it running within five seconds per day. That's far better than I expected from a watch of that age.

My grandmother's watch had not worked since I was a child. I was uncertain whether it could be restored at all. Ploen assessed it and told me clearly what was possible — and what was not — before I agreed to anything. The restoration took about two months. The watch now runs and still looks as it always did. I was grateful for the honesty from the start.

Had three watches that needed batteries and a seal check before a diving trip. All were done within two days. One had a cracked gasket that I did not know about — they called to let me know and gave me the option to renew it before proceeding. Small thing, but it reflects well on how they operate.

I collect vintage pieces as a hobby. This was the first time I had used Ploen for a restoration. They were careful about the dial — did not attempt to refinish it, which was exactly what I wanted. A couple of worn parts were replaced and clearly noted in the documentation they handed back with the watch.

Straightforward experience. My ETA movement had become unreliable — gaining several minutes a day. Full service, three weeks, regulation documented. The pricing was as quoted. Nothing unexpected. I will be back when it needs attention again in a few years.

Battery change and a water resistance test for a Casio I use for swimming. Done in two days. The person at the desk explained the seal condition clearly and recommended I consider renewing it within the next year. Not pushy about it — just useful information. Happy to go back.

Three Service Journeys in Detail

Challenge

Vintage Omega — Stopped and Corroded Contacts

A 1971 Omega brought in by a client whose father had worn it daily for thirty years. The movement had been stationary for over a decade. Corrosion in the keyless works and degraded mainspring were identified at assessment.

Approach

Full movement overhaul under the Heirloom Restoration service. The client was consulted before the mainspring was replaced. The case was cleaned conservatively — no polishing — to preserve the original finishing and wear marks that reflect forty years of use. A period-appropriate mainspring was sourced.

Outcome

Watch returned running within ±8 seconds per day across positions — within the original design tolerance for this calibre. Full documentation provided. Duration: seven weeks.

"It looks exactly as I remember it. Running again, still itself." — Khun Siriporn T.

Challenge

Daily Seiko — Significant Rate Deviation

A client's everyday Seiko 5 was losing 45 to 60 seconds per day and had become unreliable for timekeeping. The watch had never been serviced since purchase approximately eight years prior.

Approach

Full Service: movement disassembled, cleaned ultrasonically, re-lubricated, and assembled. The balance spring showed early signs of fatigue but was not yet at the point of requiring replacement. This was noted and communicated. Timing regulated across six positions.

Outcome

Rate improved to +4 seconds per day flat — well within acceptable tolerance. Duration: three weeks. Client was advised to consider re-regulation in five years or if rate deviation returns.

"Straightforward and honest. The paperwork they gave me is useful to keep." — David M.

Challenge

Sport Diver — Leaking Caseback After Pool Use

A client noticed fogging on the crystal of a Casio sport watch after a swimming session. A water ingress event had occurred — the caseback seal had failed and some moisture had reached the movement.

Approach

Battery & Care service extended to address the ingress: watch was opened, contacts dried and inspected for corrosion (none found — the ingress was recent), new battery fitted, caseback seal replaced, and water resistance confirmed at the watch's rated 100m standard using pressure equipment.

Outcome

Watch returned fully functional with confirmed water resistance. Duration: two days. Client was advised to have the seal inspected annually given regular pool and sea exposure.

"They caught it before anything was damaged. Good to know there's somewhere locally that does this properly." — Robert K.
